Yixing General

Yixing has a long history over 2,200 years since it was set up as the former Yangxian Prefecture in the Qing Dynasty. Yixing is located in the center part of well-developed Yangtze Delta, the distance from Yixing to Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Ningbo are all within 2 hours' drive. It is 180 miles west of Shanghai, and 135 miles east of Nanjing as well as 125 miles north of Hangzhou. The total area of the city is 2038 square kilometers, and its population is 1.06 million. It administers 14 towns, 4 neighborhood committees,1 national hi-tech development zone and 2 provincial economic development zones.

Yixing nearly covers the half area of the whole Wuxi city. It possesses 1 million mu(666m2/mu) of cultivated lands, 0.6 million mu of mountainous fields and 0.4 million mu of water area. The good geology of the land can suffer 18-23 t/ m², and the ground level is about 6 meters higher than the elevation of Wusong area. The mineral resources and biological resources in Yixing are also very rich. The city is the important bamboo production area and the biggest tea growing base in Jiangsu province.
